Being able to hear from God and to trust what He tells us is absolutely essential for the Christian (one who follows Christ). Speaking of Jesus the Christ, here's what He said:

John 10:27- "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me:"

In this loud, raucous world that we live in, it becomes harder to hear the Voice of God over the voice of the enemy. It's the voice of the enemy that's so easy to find: it's in the streets (senseless violence); it's on TV (evil influences seeking to capture our children at earlier ages); it's part of the national political debate (gay marriage officially approved by the President?), and so on, etc., etc...

These times now are like the days of Noah, when every man did what was right in their own eyes! But those who belong to the Lord are not to be swept up in these things, justifying it by saying, "It's 2012, this is where we are now! The standard of living, the measure of TRUTH for the believer must always be The Word of God!
Consulting the Word of God and God Himself in prayer is how we should form our opinions on what is right and appropriate for us to do.

John 10:4-5 "And when he puts forth his own sheep, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger they will not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers."

Are you saved and honestly confused about what's right and appropriate for a Christian to do in these days and times? Ask God; seek His counsel and wisdom and you'll be alright!

Jeremiah 33:3- "Call unto me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, of which you know not."

This is what I call a Power Scripture; it was my favorite Bible verse right after I got saved in 1983! I didn't know the Voice of God, or how to hear from Him, so he directed my eyes to this verse because He had things He needed me to know and do. God didn't just leave me hanging!

James 1:5- "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally, and ungrudgingly
(without reproaching or fault-finding) and it will be given him."

It is vitally important for believers (followers of Christ) to hear from Him regarding everything; there is so much evil and deception going on! If you are ever honestly, truly in the dark about a particular issue, ask yourself: "What does the Word of God say about this?" Then prayerfully search the Word about whatever it is and then obey what He shows you or tells from His Word!
