“Amazing Grace”
According to Allmusic, over 6000 recorded versions exist as of 2010 of Amazing Grace. Well I guess they counted my version of this song in these numbers, since I recorded it in 2000. One day just thinking of what and where God had delivered me from, I realize it was by the Grace of God that I’m even here today. I decided to record Amazing Grace with John G. McLane as producer. We recorded this song at Important Audio Stone Mountain, Georgia in 2000 for the CD release of Gratitude for Melodious Music Group.
The definition of Grace is 'an unmerited gift.' Amazing; means so great that it is beyond imagination. Combined, the term amazing grace is referring to salvation and what an incredibly wonderful gift it is because we really do not deserve salvation.
Amazing Grace was written by an Englishman named John Newton in the late 1700's. He was captain of several slave ships for over 20 years. He repented his sins became a preacher and chose to live the rest of his life in solitude. During this period he wrote the hymn Amazing Grace about himself, his experience, and the revelation that led him to change his life. He also inspired and mentored his young friend William Wilberforce to begin a virtually single-handed crusade in parliament that would span two decades and result in the abolition of slavery throughout the British Empire. Listen to Ulysses rendition of “Amazing Grace” starting with the last verse first.
